Roy Blunt Health Science Innovation Center Celebrates Topping Out

(Joplin, Mo., March 14, 2025) 鈥 Missouri Southern State University held a special topping out ceremony for the Roy Blunt Health Science Innovation Center on March 14, 2025. This marked a significant milestone in the development of the project. The event, attended by Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe, celebrated the completion of the building鈥檚 structural framework. 海角社区鈥檚 design, in partnership with Corner Greer Architects, harmonizes with the international style of architecture prominently on campus while delivering a transformative space that fosters immersive learning and connection to the community.

The Roy Blunt Health Science Innovation Center plans to open to students in the fall of 2026. It will provide cutting-edge facilities designed to educate the next generation of healthcare professionals. The center features advanced classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, and simulation spaces, offering students an unrivaled environment for hands-on learning and training.

鈥淲e are proud to offer our students the tools and resources necessary to succeed in today鈥檚 evolving healthcare landscape,鈥 Dr. Van Galen said.

Guided by MSSU鈥檚 vision, the facility will be a beacon of innovation in health and life sciences education, offering a welcoming environment for prospective students, families, and the broader community.

鈥淐orner Greer & Associates Inc., 海角社区, and Pulse Design Group鈥檚 design elevates the student experience with a cutting-edge simulation hospital and state-of-the-art laboratories, providing students with immersive, real-world training environments,鈥 Ertl continued.

The 68,400-SF facility is home to the College of Health, Life Sciences and Education and the Campus Welcome Center. The College of Health, Life Sciences and Education contains several spaces for a simulated hospital, including operating, exam, and care rooms. The Welcome Center includes a large, multi-purpose community meeting room, an immersive campus tour kick-off room, caf茅, office of advancement, and a library lounge.

The new center is part of MSSU鈥檚 ongoing commitment to expanding its health sciences programs and equipping students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the healthcare field. With its focus on innovation and real-world application, the Roy Blunt Health Science Innovation Center will be a cornerstone in MSSU鈥檚 commitment to meet the healthcare needs of the region and beyond.
